The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommends that children visit the dentist by the age of 1, or when the first tooth erupts. Bringing your child in at this time allows us to evaluate your child dental health, introduce them to the appropriate oral hygiene techniques, and help them build a strong and lifelong oral health foundation.
Your child’s dental experience starts before you even arrive at our office. Telling the patient they will or will not have pain, or saying the words shot, needle, or pull should be avoided since they may instill anxiety in a child before they are even seen. Instead tell your child that Dr. Jason is friendly and gentle and that today is going to be a fun visit and that we will be brushing and counting their teeth. Our staff will use child friendly words to describe things used in the office to make the experience less intimidating and fun for the child.
Once your child is back in a treatment room, he or she will receive a dental cleaning, fluoride, and dental radiographs (x-rays) will be taken when it is age appropriate and when necessary. If your child needs additional services such as fillings, the doctor or staff will discuss it with you in detail and the treatment will be scheduled for a later visit.
